May 7, The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Divine Grace (Najświętszej Maryi Panny, Matki Łaski Bożej)

May 7
In the Diocese of Kielce
The BLESSED VIRGIN MARY,
MOTHER of DIVINE GRACE
Feast

By her obedience, faith, hope and burning charity, the Blessed Virgin cooperated in a singular way in the Saviour’s work of giving back supernatural life to souls. Wherefore she is our mother in the order of grace. This maternity of Mary in the order of grace lasts until the eternal fulfillment of all the elect (cf Lumen gentium, VIII).

Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary, except:

INVITATORY

Ant. Let us praise Christ the Redeemer, who wants to give us all goods through Mary, alleluia.

OFFICE OF READINGS

HYMN

Christ, full of pity for people,
Brought us, being punished with death,
Back to life and washed
With his holy Blood.

This Blood is a river that purifies of sin,
The endless sea of all good;
It gushed forth as a sevenfold spring
Of life and grace.

Mary became, as Jesus wished,
The mother of believer and advocate,
Whose intercession grants people
Gifts of salvation.

Let us beg our Queen and Lady,
Full of hope in the power of her mediation,
That she may lead us toward her Son
In every hour.

We wish to praise you for ever
One God in the Holy Trinity,
May our spirit worship you with strong faith
And our lips with a song. Amen.

SECOND READING

From a sermon by Saint Bernard, abbot
(7, On the Feast of the Nativity of BVM)
God wished to give us everything through Mary

With our whole heart and soul, whole depth of our feeling, let us celebrate Mary, for such is the will of the One who wished to give us everything through her. Such is – I repeat – Lord’s will for us. She watches over us always and everywhere; she supports the unsteady; she strengthens hope; she disperses doubts, she lifts the weak of heart. You, fearful, did not dare to go to the Father; anxious, you hid from his face, and he gave you Jesus as the Mediator. What would the Son not receive from such a Father? God heard him, for the Son compliantly glorified him, and the Father loves his Son. Yet, you may be afraid of Him too. He is your brother with a body like yours; he experienced everything but sin so that he might come to aid of those who are tried. He was given to you by Mary.

Yet, you may be filled with fear of his Divine Countenance, for, becoming a human, he is still God. Do you wish to have a Mediator too? Call on Mary! She was created like you, but kept pure from all flaws, the only and unique in her existence. I do not hesitate to say that she will be heard too, for she is completely given and submissive to the Lord. With certainty the Son listens to her Mother, and the Son will be heard by the Father.

Beloved! Sinners can access God through her. She is our only comfort; we rest our hopes in her. For could the Son reject his Mother’s requests? Could he left them unheard? Could the Son remain deaf to his Mother’s pleas and could he Himself be not heard by God? Nothing of the kind! “You have found favour with God,” says the angel to Mary. What joy! She always finds favour with the Lord, and we only need this favour. Let us seek it through Mary, for she will be granted what she asks for and she will not be left unheard. She was elevated above all mankind; above angels and all heavenly creations, as only the Most High can give us living water that He offers. [1]

RESPONSORY

Blessed are you among women, for you changed Eve’s curse into a blessing. For through you the Father’s blessing shone over people.
Alleluia, alleluia.

Thanks to you the original parents will be granted salvation.
Alleluia, alleluia.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Holy and just rejoice in the Lord. Alleluia, alleluia.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

O God,
thanks to your will, the Blessed Virgin Mary gave birth to the Giver of grace and cooperated with Him in the work of the redemption of man,
grant that she may obtain rich grace for us and guide us to the port of eternal salvation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
