The image of Kodeń, which is a copy of a Spanish statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe, was probably commissioned by Pope Gregory the Great. It was brought to Kodeń by the proprietor of Kodeń Prince Mikołaj Sapieha. An undocumented account has it that in 1631 the price, being miraculously healed, stole the image from the chapel of Pope Urban VIII. In Kodeń the image became the object of cult of the members of the Roman and Greek Churches, as well as the Orthodox Church. In 1723 it was crowned with papal crowns by the Bishop of Lutsk Stefan. B. Rupniewski. During Russian persecutions and the cancellation of the Kodeń parish the benevolent image was taken to the monastery of Jasna Góra, from where he ceremoniously returned to Kodeń in 1927. Pope John Paul II confirmed the cult of Our Lady of Kodeń as the Mother of Unity in 1997.
