In the Archdiocese of Przemyśl
BLESSED AUGUST CZARTORYSKI, PRESBYTER
August Czartoryski was born in Paris on 2 August 1858 in a Polish ducal family. He was educated in Paris, greatly influenced by his tutors, above all St Rafał Kalinowski. Due to his health problems he was frequently hospitalised. Despite his father’s wishes to pursue diplomatic career, August decided to become a priest. In 1883 in Paris he met St John Bosco, which guided his vocation to serve teenagers in need. At 29 he was accepted as a novice. Being in poor health condition, he studied theology and philosophy. He was ordained in San Remo on 2 April 1892 and died a year afterwards at 35 in Alassio, on 8 April 1893. His relics are to be found in St Joseph Church in Przemyśl. Pope John Paul II beatified him on 25 April 2004 in Rome.

Almighty and merciful God,
you called Blessed August, presbyter, to imitate your Son and made him poor,
grant that we, following his example and open to the Holy Spirit, may serve you humbly in the teenagers in need.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
