In the Cathedral Basilica – Solemnity
The Diocese of Warszawa-Praga was set up by Pope John Paul II on 25 March 1992. The cathedral of Sts Michael the Archangel and Florian, Martyr, was built in the years 1887-1904 according to Józef Dziekoński’s plan. Destroyed on 14 September 1944 and re-built until 1970, it was equipped and re-consecrated by Bishop Kazimierz Tomaniuk on 29 September 2001, on the 100th anniversary of its first dedication. On 5 May 1997 John Paul II made it minor basilica.
