The DEDICATION of the ARCHCATHEDRAL BASILICA in ŁÓDŹ
In the Cathedral Basilica – Solemnity
The Diocese of Łódź was set up in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. The Parish Church of St Stanislaus Kostka erected in the beginnings of the 20th century was made its cathedral. The first bishop of Łódź, Wincenty Tymieniecki, consecrated the church on 15 October 1922. The cathedral was profaned during World War II and after its end it began to serve God again. In 1989 Pope John Paul II elevated the cathedral to the status of basilica and upon the creation of the Archdiocese of Łódź in 1992 the cathedral was made archcathedral.
