Optional memorial

Celine (Celina) Borzęcka, née Chludzińska, was born in Antowil (today in Belarus) in 1833. Since she was young, she wished to devote herself to God in religious life. However, obedient to her parents, she married Józef Borzęcki. After his death, together with her two daughters she went to Rome, where she decided on the spiritual guidance of Fr Piotr Semenenko, CR, which was based on the Paschal Mystery. On 6 January 1891 she and her daughter, Hedwig (Jadwiga), made the profession and founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection of the Lord. Aspiring to renew the society, she was open to the educational, missionary and ecumenical needs of the Church. She died in Kraków on 26 October 1913.

From a letter by Blessed Celine Borzęcka
(Rękopisy, General Archives of the Congregation of the Sister Resurrectionist, Rome, Hist. S VIIJ, T3, No 11/6 [4326])
Be happy and cheerful, because God sees your good intentions and your good desires

Let us move on in life by more and more detaching ourselves from it; in this way we approach the great day of the Resurrection. How good it is to be in the Resurrection already in this life – remain in Him, happy and peaceful, penetrating this great mystery and resurrecting to more and more supernatural life. It is not sufficient to embrace this grace only with your mind; what is also required is work on oneself and deeds that sanctify the soul based on great humility and gratitude toward God.

I beg Christ the Lord to let you resurrect in your spirit while you are alive, now that you have experienced this grand grace of being called to such a great and glorious mystery. Let us remind ourselves our Lord’s words, “My own peace I give you.” We have got to maintain it and distribute it to all around us; this peace is well-understood love.

Do not be worried if for now you cannot see the progress despite your best intentions. In our all work and plans, let us bear in mind God’s words, “The soil will yield you brambles and thistles.” This is our share and this is how it has got to be. As reasonable humans, let us do what we ought to in peace and let the consequences and results of our actions to God.

Whatever do we know about His plans and intentions in our souls, in the matters of the world and our work? Whether we see them or not lies with God. That is why we keep working for Him anew without being discouraged with anything. This is the field of our actions – to have eyes closed to the fruit of our work, but to begin anew every day in order to do all what is in our power. This what our Master, God, did.

Be cheerful and calm then, God sees your good will, your intentions and in due time you will see the results. Each attempt will be of benefit to your soul, because it will serve as an exercise in self-denial. As for me, I commend you to God every day and say, “Do with us whatever you please, even if it means destruction. At your merciful hand I am ready to receive everything with joy and gratitude.” I do not worry nor get upset and ask the Lord for but a thing – for the growth of perfection of the sisters of our Congregation, as the beginning of the Resurrection of our souls should take place now that we are alive, because we have not participated in the Mystery of our Salvation in vain.[1]

RESPONSORY Col 3:1-2; 1 P 1:21

If you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.

God raised Christ from the dead, so that your faith and hope are in Him.
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.

O almighty and merciful God,
you endowed Blessed Celine with exceptional reverence for the Paschal Mystery and gave her the grace to fulfil your will,
grant through her example and intercession that we, faithfully following the cross of your Son, may participate in His glorious resurrection.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Congregatio de Cultu Divino et Disciplina Sacramentorum. Probatum seu confirmatum, die 18 iulii 2008. Prot. 126/08/L.
