Vincent (Wincenty) was born in Karwów neat Opatów around 1160. He studied in Paris and Bologna. He became a priest of the Diocese of Kraków and, with time, the provost of the Sandomierz Collegiate Church and Bishop of Kraków. After ten years’ service, he stepped down from the bishopric and joined the Cistercian Order in Jędrzejów, where he died on 8 march 1223. He was the first Pole to chronicle the history of the nation.
